Currawongs, in case you aren't familiar with them, are an Australian bird, often called a Storm Bird. They sing, or call, announcing the coming of rain or a storm. This painting, with its broody, dark, stormy sky, and that summer rain feeling, is exactly what you'd see and feel, if you were standing out in a grassy paddock looking out toward hills waiting for the rain to come.
Listening for Currawongs has an interestingly tranquil feel to it which I think comes from the glow of the light in the painting. It was created using acrylic and mixed media on stretched canvas and is built up using under layers and washes. The farm fences ang gates are scribbled into the underlayers.
It includes carefully curated type and watercolour pattern as collage which is designed to contrast with the rural nature of the painting.
Measuring 103 x 103 cm x 5.5cm, the painting is framed in spotted gum tray frame with a hanging wire and is ready to hang on your wall.
